Exercise for Glowing Good Health
“To enjoy the glow of good health, you must exercise.”
- Gene Tunney
We need more exercise in our lives.
Keeping active every day is the best way to maintain a state of general well-being, both physical and mental. Yet, in today's times, taking care of ourselves becomes increasingly tricky. Our energy is low, time is scarce, and laziness has almost become commonplace because of the modern lifestyle with too many comforts offered by technology.
The state of a sedentary lifestyle, in addition to negatively affecting the physical appearance, can have worrying consequences on the quality of life since the health of the entire body depends on it.
It’s critical to find the right motivation and arm ourselves with goodwill and determination to carve out a few hours a week to exercise according to tastes, age, and needs. Thankfully, the options are endless: we can take online classes, join the gym, practice YOGA, attend dance school, move the body at home, go for a run or bike, or take a nice walk of at least 40 minutes.
Seeing is believing! The benefits of exercise are numerous and visible right away. We’ve highlighted some below:
1. It lowers the chances of developing cardiovascular diseases
Exercising consistently improves cardiovascular function and reduces the risk of heart disease, helping eliminate LDL "bad" cholesterol in favor of "good" cholesterol (HDL). This allows the blood to flow smoothly and unhindered, thus preventing a broad spectrum of health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, hypertension, and diabetes.
2. May prevent Alzheimer’s disease
Many researchers have found that exercising keeps the mind younger and helps delay cognitive decline in the elderly. In particular, aerobic exercise increases the flow of oxygen to the brain and counteracts the loss of brain cells.
3. Improves mood and sleep quality
When exercising, the brain releases endorphins, a particular hormone that acts similarly to an antidepressant: it makes you feel more serene and relaxed, helping to reduce accumulated stress and channel aggression.
This also positively affects the quantity and quality of sleep and facilitates better rest.
4. Strengthens muscles and bones
Exercise strengthens muscles, tendons and ligaments. It allows for stronger bones, thus decreasing the risk of fractures and slowing the loss of bone mass, the cause of osteoporosis.
5. Increases energy
That's right! Exercising allows the body to transport oxygen and nutrients to the cells more effectively, increasing the energy available to face daily commitments.
6. Controls weight and improves self esteem
Exercising helps you burn calories and, as a result, lose weight and keep fit.
A pleasant physical appearance makes you more confident, responsive, and optimistic and allows you to feel better about yourself and your appearance.
7. Helps socialize
Exercise, especially if done with other people or in a team, helps to socialize, meet new people and fit into groups sharing the same passions and interests.
8. Extends life
Regular practice of physical exercise reduces the risk of disease by 70% and increases life expectancy by about ten years compared to a sedentary lifestyle.
